Amachale women SHG meaning, “now in better position†is one of the SHGs supported by the project. The group comprises 22 destitute women who have no land, widows/house heads, homeless and generally lead their life under poverty. They came together as self helping groups, two years ago. Members explain that, they have obtained business trainings, basic literacy and seed money to start business from the project. The group has got a capital of Birr 4,885.00 or US$ 279.00 that revolves among members as internal loan. Besides, most of the group members have also received seed money (US$ 60.00 – 120.00/head) from the project to strengthen their business. They have explained that they have immensely benefited from the project:
- They engaged in small business activities such as small restaurant, shops and petty trade (got access to financial capital and generated income);
- Able to send their children to school (managed school fees);
- Able to rent small plots of land to produce food crops (purchased seeds and fertilizers);
- Members got exposure to basic information (health and agriculture), awareness on human rights and gender issues.
