Obbo Yadesa Belete right is a farmer, 35 years living in Somob village of Walkituma Kebele. He has nine family members.
He says, I have started to plant seedlings in 2,000 EC with a total of 800 seedlings including Tid, Susbania, Neem, Militia Fruginia, Gravellea Robusta, Acacia Salgina, Avocado and Papaya. Initially, almost all seedlings except 50% of Gravellia seedlings were died. When I get trained before taking the seedlings in 2001 EC, my seedlings have survived almost all in all and I was awarded water cane being among the best seedling promoters/tree adopters. This awarding program arranged by Gurmuu and the initiation of visitors and district office motivated me to do more and more. I was selected as a model farmer from my area (to serve others as exemplary). Then I requested and took seed and nursery tools from Gurmuu to establish my own nursery via Gurmuu’s technical supports. From this own nursery, I am freely disbursing for my relatives (who planted around 2,567 seedlings on 0.5 hectares tree plot area). I have planned to plant two hectares in the future time if I get seeds of exotics. I have trained 30 successor farmers and they have started planting trees like me. I am expecting to benefit from these trees: gain income, timber, fire woods and conserve my agricultural land as well. “Tree is my own lovely childâ€!.
