Mrs. Nachitu Fite lives at rural area, Gudane Dadu Kebele. She is about 55 and with family size of 11. Due to her big family size, she had to daily struggle with the smoky stove, which used to consume voluminous fuel wood; its smock hurt her eyes; took much time; and the smoke risky for clothes as well as children. It was in such condition that she heard about the alternative energy source, fuel efficient stoves, and started to use a year before. Previously, although she was very initiated of utilizing the new stove due to her aforementioned challenges, additional (environmental) benefit of the stove was not yet internalized before. Consequently, Gurmuu took the initiative to aware her on the multifaceted advantages of the stove while supporting her with the technical installation at the same time.
“Nowâ€, Nachitu tells, “I can bake as many ‘injera’ as I want once the stove is heat with such little fuel wood; no delay on food preparation since baking of the ‘injera’ and boiling ‘wot’ can be done simultaneously; no worry about smocks anymore, I can make with my white clothes now; even children can safely operate. Moreover, our hands have started to plant trees than cutting them down carelessly; Gurmuu has taught us that such a practice would save us from desertification and flooding.â€
